While heading to Vermont, I wasn't sure what to expect. My initial thoughts were, what is a city girl like myself going to find enjoyable about Vermont? First stop was in Montpelier to visit the Ben & Jerry's Factory and let's be honest, who can be unhappy when ice cream is involved? Aside from the factory, the town seemed very small with not much going on, or even around for that matter. But then we got to Burlington, and everything changed.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much Downtown Burlington had to offer. It is truly Vermont's gem. The vibe was mellow and the people were so friendly. Majority of our day was spent walking through the popular Church Street Marketplace where there were a plethora of restaurants, boutiques, and street performers. With the gorgeous University of Vermont Campus just blocks away, the young crowd seems to always be out for the festivities. We even engaged in some street salsa dancing. Such a lively area.
Being that Shawn and I are big foodies, anywhere that offers great places to eat are alright in our book. Burlington is known for its rising farm-to-table restaurant scene. This is something we look for wherever we go as the quality of our food is important to our lifestyle. One highly recommended place was The Farmhouse Tap and Grill. Our meals were fresh and nothing short of amazing. The biggest disappointment was knowing that we didn't have enough time to try all of the incredible spots. We managed to make it down to the Waterfront Park just in time to watch the sunset. The perfect ending to a great day.
